Mothers Day

“My dear girl, the day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through. If when we talk, I repeat the same thing a thousand times, don’t interrupt to say:

“You said the same thing a minute ago”… Just listen, please.

Try to remember the times when you were little and I would read the same story night after night until you would fall asleep. When I don’t want to take a bath, don’t be mad and don’t embarrass me. Remember when I had to run after you making excuses and trying to get you to take a shower when you were just a girl?

When you see how ignorant I am when it comes to new technology, give me the time to learn and don’t look at me that way… remember, honey, I patiently taught you how to do many things like eating appropriately, getting dressed, combing your hair and dealing with life’s issues every day… the day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through.

If I occasionally lose track of what we’re talking about, give me the time to remember, and if I can’t, don’t be nervous, impatient or arrogant. Just know in your heart that the most important thing for me is to be with you. And when my old, tired legs don’t let me move as quickly as before, give me your hand the same way that I offered mine to you when you first walked.

When those days come, don’t feel sad… just be with me, and understand me while I get to the end of my life with love. I’ll cherish and thank you for the gift of time and joy we shared. With a big smile and the huge love I’ve always had for you, I just want to say, I love you… my darling daughter.”

From Spring in the Air

With mothers day around the corner we reflect onto the years growing up with our own “secret agent”

teaching us all the tips and tricks of life and protecting us from the “villains”.

Most importantly giving the knowledge to live life with our heads held high with confidence

and a mindset that prompted us to become the successful and “go-getter” individuals we are today.

This year you can give the opportunity for your mother to experience an SSS mission with you,

or bring your daughters along and provide the extra boost and instill this knowledge they will

utilize for the rest of their lives. There is no better way to bond then stepping out of your

comfort zone and learning something new all while having fun.

Finding the "Flow" in Training and In Life

There is a sweet spot of balance between force and relaxation where you achieve your goals with total precision and minimal effort.

Lesson taken from an all-day Hand to Hand Combat seminar. We learned this lesson in the context of striking blows but, like all solid principles, it applies to all aspects of life.

When we train with clarity and have sureness of purpose as well as confidence in the universe and ourselves, the flow happens. I remember a yoga class I regularly attended in which Forearm Stand was a one of the standard class poses. Despite my efforts, I could never get up into that pose properly. Each class I would use my will to attempt the pose, usually with disappointing results. One day I approached the class with the mindset of “I will just have fun today and see where the class takes me” —- and bam, I went right up into Forearm Stand effortlessly.

Flash forward to this all-day Hand to Hand Combat seminar with top Russian trainers and I’m looking around the room at the fighters who seriously study these martial arts and feeling understandably intimidated yet unexplainably determined. I’m not a violent person by nature and I’ve always had a hard time punching. I’ve never felt as though I had a lot of power behind my punches. While working on a kinetic short range of motion strike, I was “willing” my punches to be harder, but it wasn’t happening. Regardless of the force I used, there was no power. My instructor kept telling me (in his Russian accent) to not tighten up my muscles before each punch and to just “let it happen.” Right, I thought. A yoga pose, maybe, but a punch takes force! After many futile, willful attempts I finally listened to what my instructor had told me. My punch landed so hard that the sound made ME jump.

I wish I had a magic spell for allowing myself to regularly get in the flow. I may not have that tactic down yet, but I do know that intention, training and confidence, go a long way.

Stiletto Spy Sisters | Agent Mother

Each week we celebrate and highlight our past alumni who have gone on to embody the spirit, strength and sass of a Stiletto Spy Sister. Wise and nurturing, meet Agent Mother who thinks that always having an A-game is overrated.

1. In real life, you are….

Denise Souraj-Ramjohn. Though currently unemployed, private jet management is what I do.

2. In the spy world, you go by the alias ………….. and have the ability to …………..

Agent Mother is my name and taking care of people is my game.Whether in real life or the spy world, my aim is figuring out the needs of those around me and doing my best to hit their target.

3. How did you first learn about Stiletto Spy School? What triggered you to sign up for a mission?

I saw the segment on the Today Show and knew it was something I had to do at least once. We were deciding on what to do for my sister for her wedding. We wanted to give her a bridesmaids’ present / bachelorette party that she would never forget. I wanted to give her an opportunity to learn more about herself and build confidence. It was a hit! She, along with the other bridesmaids, loved their experience and each one of us took away something that we’ll never forget.

4. What was the most important skill/takeaway you’d learned from the program?

Self-awareness. From understanding the physical fear that metal imposes on your flesh to learning some great confident and seductive moves in stilettos and feather boas, each experience was as impactful as the next.

5. How have you applied skills/lessons you’ve learned in real life?

I don’t always have to have my A game. My B or C, even D game is fine, too. In other words, an off day may not actually be an off day, just another way, though sometimes a longer or not so clear way, to get to the same goal. Your body tells you what it needs. You just have to listen and work with it, not fight it.

6. What would be one spy skill you’ll love to pick up next?

I didn’t know about the other spy skills until I learned them so I guess I have to experience another spy school mission before I can answer this question!

7. If you were assigned to a fantasy mission, who would you pick (dead or alive) as your spy-sister to cover your back?

As a LOST fan, I pick ROUSSEAU. She was such a badass who did all she did because she was a MOTHER.

8. Do you have any advice for those interested in signing up for the program?

It’s something you just have to experience…

Here’s a recap of all the interesting links and articles we’ve came across this week:

We love this time of year since it means that some of our favorite occasions are just around the corner— and one of them is just 26 days away! The best part of Halloween is that you can step out of the norm and dress up to be whoever you want to be …. which is pretty much how we at Stiletto Spy School think you ought to feel all the time. ( Just sayin… )

To inspire you this Halloween, we’re putting our favorite agents in the spotlight …starting with one superspy named Agent Sydney Bristow
